Flying squirrels in Maine?! I was surprised when I found out we have giant spiders that fish and now flying squirrels? Well you live and learn. We have been seeing some unusual activity at night around the feeder. If you stood real still with only window light you could see these "things" that moved incredibly fast and were jumping and leaping to and from the feeder. So I broke out the camera and got this image from about 30' with only window light for focus. The camera was in auto and I think it did a pretty good job. Anyway I had no idea we had flying squirrels in Maine. They are completely nocturnal and travel in troops ... now I have to try to get one flying!!

These are not my best efforts as I was being lazy and using an auto exposure while I tried to focus! LOL as a result the cam used a low f stop so the depth of field was razor thin (I had my whole set of extension tubes on my Nikkor 18-55 kit lens hence the razor thin dof) I will do this again and promise not to be so lazy and set it up around F12 to get the whole flake in focus and break out the tripod as these were hand held. Meanwhile until the next storm please enjoy these.
